Can I work in paid employment before, during or after volunteering
Volunteering abroad is an amazing way to contribute in areas where resources are lacking. The communities we support cannot offer financial compensation and volunteers must cover their own expenses. Accordingly volunteers enter the country in which they are volunteering on a 'tourist' or 'volunteer' visa that does not cover paid employment. Entering paid employment whilst volunteering would, therefore, be illegal.
Participating on a volunteer program in a foreign country is a challenging and incredibly rewarding experience. Most placements are Monday to Friday for approximately 5 hours per day and you are likely to feel more tired than you would be at home as you acclimatise to the weather and surroundings. We encourage you to make the most of your spare time to relax and explore. After all that's what travel is all about!
