How do I get a Criminal Background Check?

In order to ensure the safety of the children we are working to support around the world, all Love Volunteers who choose to join us on one of our wonderful Childcare & Development, Teaching & Education, Women's Empowerment or Medical Programs are required to provide a criminal background check prior to their arrival at their project site.

As our volunteers come from all over the world, there is not one single process for applying for a criminal background check that will work for all. Among other things, it will be determined by the local regulations and law enforcement systems of you own country of residence. However, a good place to start is by contacting your local police station to inquire what the process is in your country.

For volunteers resident in the US www.criminalwatchdog.com is an online background check provider, and in many cases the request can be made in as little as 5 minutes. Note that we require the 'National Level' personal background check.

For most UK residents a simple Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be sufficient and is detailed on this website: https://www.gov.uk/request-copy-criminal-record

If you need any further assistance with this process, your dedicated LV Program Coordinator will be happy to assist!
